The Dachshund

Six Varieties - One dog, three coats, two sizes

The dachshund is a very intelligent dog that has a mind of his own.
He responds positively to training, although his innate stubborn streak my sometimes exhibit itself
If you want a challenge, train your dachshund for obedience work
Without any doubt, the dachshund of any variety will be a clever, playful and lively addition to any household
A dachshund is a splendid choice around children. He is dediocated and protective as well as affectionate and playful
His size, cleanliness and lack of “doggy” odour are characteristics that please the lady of the house
Dachshunds are alert watchdogs. Once they know what is expected they will loudly proclaim the approach of a stranger. The dachshund is easy to love, but he gives much more thn he receives. He is courageous to th point of rashness. His delightful antics will provide you with hours of pleasure

Flying with your Dachshund

With major interstate shows coming up on a regular basis it is perhaps pertinent to look at the rules regarding travelling with your dog by air in Australia. Click on FLYING in the left margin to take you to those rules.

Dachshund Breed Standards

It appears that there is some confusion about the Dachshund Breed Standards that apply in Australia.
All Australian dachshund owners should be aware that the Breed Standard that we are abiding by at the present time is the Pre 1987 English Standard.
This standard is detailed in full on the ANKC website at www.ankc.org.au and it is recommended that if in doubt about any aspect of what is correct and acceptable then a quick visit to this website will dispell any fears anyone might have. Click here to go to Hound Group Breed Standards

NEW EXHIBITORS GUIDE

(Courtesy of the RNSWCC)

Are you new to the world of exhibiting? If so you are probably wondering where you can get information that will enable you, with patience and plenty of practice, to become as experienced and proficent, both in the ring and outside, as many of the seasoned owners and handlers we see each show day.

The Royal New South Wales Canine Council has produced an excellent guide that will take much of the mystery out of procuring, looking after and exhibiting dogs. This comprehensive document was produced in the CC’s monthly magazine and in now available on the Internet.

Click here to go straight to this guide and enjoy the read. You can also access the guide by going to the links page and clicking on the appropriate title.

MICROCHIPPING OF DOGS

There have been several enquiries regarding the microchipping of dogs in Australia, particularly on chat lines on the internet. To our knowledge New South Wales is the only State that has a law in place regarding microchipping. To access information on this law go to www.dlg.nsw.gov.au/dlg/dlghome/documents/companionanimals/cainfov.pdf

This document should answer most questions about this procedure as it applies in NSW.
